Auto transport – Things to Remember
If you’re moving to another region or have recently bought a car from abroad, you will definitely need help of an auto transport company. Of course, there can be many more reasons for having your car transported but in each case you have to find experienced specialists that will ship your vehicle. The simplest option is to hire an auto transport broker who will find a reliable driver and, in general, take care of all arrangements regarding the car transporting process. Car shipping companies usually provide door to door services meaning that the vehicle will be delivered as close to your door as possible. Sometimes, however, big trucks are not allowed to enter certain areas. In case when the vehicle can not be delivered on your street you can agree on other location to pick up your car, for example, a nearby parking lot.
Some important things to remember and ask before you sign the contract with a transport company:
• Ask about Vehicle Insurance
Make sure that your vehicle is properly insured. The transportation insurance covers your car against any damage that is caused during the shipping and mainly through the fault of the driver. It means that if any harm is done to your car due to the bad weather conditions or any defects of road pavement, generally, it will not be covered by such insurance. However, private insurance on the car that is shipped will cover any damage that may occur during the car shipment and are out of the driver’s control. Remember, that insurance should not cost you extra money.
• Remove Personal Items
The transportation of your personal items inside the car is usually prohibited by all auto carriers. The main reason for this prohibition is that any personal stuff is not covered by transportation insurance. Still, you can actually transport a number of personal items in the vehicle but remember that you are doing this at your own risk. Maybe, you should turn to a moving company instead.
• Don’t take Guarantees too seriously
In general, shipping companies should not set a specific pick up and delivery times long in advance. Anything from bad weather to some minor mechanical failures can radically affect the auto transport schedule. A good and reliable company will never promise you the exact time frames of pick up and delivery and whenever they use terms like “guarantee” they will explain the influence of all mentioned unexpected conditions on the schedule.
This is just a short list of things you should remember when shipping your car. Learning more about the specificity of the auto transport process will help you avoid many troubles.
